MAGIC FORMULA LINKS 8/24/2011

Clearly all of the buzz this evening has been around the announcement of Steve Jobs stepping down as Apple's (AAPL) CEO. While Apple is not currently a Magic Formula stock, the news is both significant from a business and personal standpoint. I for one, as an iPhone-touting, iPad-reading, Macbook Air-using Apple "fanboy", thank him for everything he has accomplished and wish him and family the best going forward.

Applied Materials (AMAT) Reports Earnings

Applied Materials, the world's largest semiconductor equipment firm, reported better-than-expected earnings but lower-than expected guidance. A few key points. One, foundries seem to be dramatically reducing equipment orders, which will probably affect other MFI stocks like KLA-Tencor (KLAC) and Nova Instruments (NVMI) as well. On the other hand, they were bullish on solar, boding well for GT Advanced Tech (GTAT) and Power-One (PWER)
